Correspondence, bills, accounts, invoices, legal documents, and lists of books, largely 18th to early 19th century. These record the business dealings primarily of booksellers and publishers, but also of book collectors, bookbinders, book auctioneers, printers, writers, and other book artists and tradesmen in England and the United States primarily, a few are in France or Italy. These include Thomas Jefferson (1795, a letter to his Paris bookseller, M. Froullʹe); Isaiah Thomas; Valentine Nutter; John Dunton; Jacques Truain (bill for books sold and bound by Truain, 1735-1736, for Elisabeth Charlotte d'Orlʹeans, duchess of Lorraine); Thomas Frognall Dibdin; Stanley Morison; Roger Warne; William Morris; John Starkey; William Upcott; Antonio Marsand; James Bettenham; David Hall (partner of Benjamin Franklin in Franklin and Hall); John Hughs; George Nicol ("Bookseller to His Majesty," fl. 1773-1790); and others. A few miscellaneous manuscripts not having to do with books include a marriage contract, 1661, signed by Jules Cardinal Mazarin, and a letter by Marianne Moore, 1949, to G.L. McKay.
